7 Dog Toys Your Dog Should NOT Have

Isn't it fun to buy your precious dogs FUN toys to enjoy while you are away at work or shopping for groceries? The Pampered Pet wants our dogs to be entertained as possible. Your dogs just may not understand that some toys are NOT good for them to play with. Our dog boarding facility at the Lake of the Ozarks would like to give you a few examples.

7 Dog Toys Your Dog Should NOT Have

1. Plastic Bottles

You don't want to give your dog something they could potentially chew up and choke on. The cap of the water bottle could come off, get chewed up, and potentially swallowed by your precious fur baby. Furthermore, the dog can tear off pieces of the plastic pretty easily, which could create sharp, rough edges that would be exposed to their gums. Your dog could possibly then cut their gums on these sharp edges.

2. Toys That Are Too Small

This rule can be fairly broud, so put simply, even a ball can be dangerous for the right sized dog. A good rule of thumb, if the toy appears to be so small that your dog could swallow it, you probably shouldn't give it to him or her.

3. Ice Cubes

Lots of people may give their dogs ice cubes but think about this. If your dog is chewing on the ice cube, they could potentially fracture their tooth! Noone wants that right?

4. Toys That Create a Vacuum Effect

Dog toys that have a vacuum effect are toys like those squeeze balls that push air out as you release your hand from the ball. According to www.Petful.com, in 2015 Jamie Stumpf's Rottweiler's had a serious tongue injury. It had chewed on a ball and got its tongue got stuck inside. It then swelled and it, unfortunately, died after. Be sure to check all toys to make certain they have at least 2 holes.

5. Toys With A Chemical Smell

If you're at a store about to buy a toy, smell it. If it has a heavy chemical odor, you may want to pick another brand.

6. Bone-Type Treats

There are certain injuries that have been known to come along with bone-type treats, such as:
  • choking
  • cuts and wounds in the mouth
  • death
  • gastrointestinal obstruction

The FDA recommends that you supervise your dog while he or she is chewing on toys such as these.

7. Rocks

Believe it or not, dogs can eat rocks! If your dog swallows a rock, it could potentially be very harmful and require surgery to remove.
