Pomeranians: The Importance of Proper Grooming

For all of the fur baby lovers out there, we know you have a soft spot in your heart for each of your precious pets, as you should. A lot of love and caring goes into taking care of our dogs. Knowing that, it's important to know for all of you who have a pomeranian breed, the importance of proper grooming. In this blog, our grooming salon at the Lake of the Ozarks will tell you why it's so vital that your Pomeranian is groomed on a regular basis, details behind the pomeranian breed, and dog grooming tips.

The Pomeranian Breed

The Pomeranian breed is referred to as a toy breed. Pomeranians actually are descendants of large sled dogs and have a fox-like face. They are very active dogs and capable of competing in agility or obedience competitions. Also, they make for a great companion and member of the family. Pomeranians require a higher level of grooming than your average dog. The fur coat can become matted easily if not groomed regularly.

Why It's Vital to Properly Groom Your Pomeranian

If your Pomeranian is not groomed regularly, it can be very bad for his or her health. As stated earlier, the fur coat can become extremely matted, which can weigh down your dog and make it difficult for them to get up and move around freely. It's important to know how your Pomeranian should be groomed properly. A properly groomed Pomeranian is a happy Pomeranian.

Grooming Tips

There are certain tips you should keep in mind when grooming your Pomeranian.

  • Keep a grooming schedule. Pomeranians should be brushed every other day. If not, tangles can develop.
  • Use the right grooming tools, such as a slicker brush for pulling out shed fur, a spin brush for grooming the coat, and a double sided comb to check for tangles.
